Vendor lock-in is a term that you could use against any technology, open source or paid, i don't think it is particularly helpful term as it's deemed as a pure negative.  That's not an issue with the person who asked the question by the way! 

Do you not invest in your vendors technology to reap the benefits of the innovation and millions of dollars they pump into the services / products.
